Coronavirus (COVID-19) Pandemic has caused significant disruption to everyones’ lives. Whether it’s the concern around their own health or their loved ones, both here and abroad, concerns around the school, work, finances, their ability to take part in the community and social events, or the fear of uncertainty.
We know these are challenging times for those who have to self-isolate, are choosing to distance themselves, or have directly-indirectly been impacted.
With ever-changing guidelines and self-isolation rules in place, it’s easier to get engulfed in heightened anxiety, fear, and stress.
During this turbulent and unprecedented moment in time, we must take good care of ourselves and our families and find practices for our mind-body-spirit, that one can try at home to ease the stress.
To help you & loved ones deal with the uncertainty and positively channel your energy, sharing with you, few tried & tested tricks below:
01. Practice Mindfulness
Try some free guided meditation and wellness apps like Headspace, Aura & Calm.
You can find free mindfulness videos on YouTube, such as The Mindful Movement.
If you wish to try the conventional method, find a comfortable space to relax, sit quietly for least 5 minutes, close your eyes, take deep breaths, and when you have a thought, acknowledge it and move on.
Do not dwell in the past, do not dream of the future, concentrate the mind on the present moment.~ Buddha
02. Stay Connected with Family & Friends
You can fight the loneliness during these self-isolation times, through non-traditional ways of connecting with your near & dear ones :
Write a letter, Connect on Social Media, Call or Text, Use Video Conferencing apps such as Skype, Google Hangouts, or Zoom to connect with far and near.
03. Be Active & Eat Healthy
Manage your mental health & isolation during this trial, we seldom forget that our physical and psychological well-being are intertwined. If you spend weeks of solitude not getting any activity, this will harm your capacity to cope rationally.
Eat clean, do not jeopardize your nutrition, or consume junk cause you are homebound. Limit the caffeine & alcohol intake, stay hydrated.
04. Pamper Yourself
Stay kind to yourself. It’s ok to complain, worry, or cry. Refocus your mind to positive thoughts – watch movies, read your favorite books, play video games or have that extra slice of cake, make time for a nice long soak with Candles, Himalayan Salt, and Essential Oils.
Enjoy some playtime with your beloved pet. Do what makes you happy.
05. Unplug & Detox
Take breaks from Social Media and the News. Regularly listening about the pandemic can be nerve-wracking.
Chat with somebody you trust about your anxieties but set rules to curb talk about the pandemic to a small part of your conversation.
Enjoy the newfound flexibility while it lasts. Use this opportunity for some Self Love and Goal Setting.
Find the “Blessing in Disguise,” and remember, we are in this together, this shall pass, and we shall emerge stronger.
